Only in Rochester...

We had a bit of an incident at the house tonight. Matt and the kids were playing downstairs and all of a sudden I heard Charlotte crying. Matt comes upstairs with Charlotte in his arms and in a fairly calm voice says "Mommy, I think we've got a bad one here...she cut her head open and she's bleeding."

I check it out, wipe away the dripping blood (above her right eyebrow, about 1/2 way up her forehead) and get a good look at the gash. My next words "She'll need stitches." I remember my Mom looking at a wound and instantly being able to assess if stitches were needed...how do you know? You just do...

So we get some diapers in the diaper bag, throw in her drink and grab her blanket. Get her jacket on...good thing she already had her boots on (she loves to run around the house in her boots.) I head out to the van with my bleeding baby girl in my arms. She's not crying, she's sort of excited to get to go bye-bye. I put the diaper bag in the van and glance across the street....hmmmm...the light bulb goes on in my head. We have a plastic surgeon that works at the Mayo Clinic living across the street. Worth a shot, right??

I go over and ring the doorbell. His wife answers the door, he's not home, still at work. She pages him, no answer. She says she's expecting him home anytime, she'll call me when she hears from him. So long story only mildly shorter, he gets home about an hour later, comes over and fixes our baby girl up...with what of all things...SUPER GLUE! He assured us this method is as good as sutures, and the 'bandaid' put on top of it should stay on for 5 days and then she'll be all better!

Charlotte was such a trooper...went to bed after requesting Daddy to read books to her tonight. What a brave little girl!

Now, what are the odds that you have a plastic surgeon living across the street from you??? Only in Rochester, MN!!!

And now we know all we need around the house is superglue, duct tape, and fun band aids!

Only with your second child would you do that! I'm glad she's all patched up and good to go :)
