For my Maggie:
Today was a big day. It was much like any other day, yet special like every other is too.
Today, just today, you learned to clap your hands. Your cute little baby hands. You pat them together oh so gently, but enough to make a little noise which amuses you.
Today, just today, you learned how to make that 'wah-wah-wah' sound by saying 'ahhhhhhh' but wiggling your fist in and out of your mouth at the same time. You are quite proud of it and it makes you smile.
Today, just today, you gave me your first kiss. I was asking you for kisses. You leaned in and planted, in baby fashion, an open-mouthed, drool-filled kiss right on my face. I look forward to many more just the same...they are my favorite.
Today we did our daily things too. Today we played on the floor. Today you nursed. Today you crawled up to me all whiny and desperate to nurse...like you usually do when you are tired or you just miss me after a few minutes of playing on the floor by yourself. You need to touch base before you go off again. I adore it.
Today you played on the floor in the kitchen while I was cleaning up, this is sort of new. It's teaching me I need to keep my kitchen floors a lot cleaner. You find every little crumb, string, leaf, blade of grass and you must taste it all.
Today you were happy, like every other day, always happy. Today I rocked you. Today I sang to you. Today I changed your diaper. Today I laid you in your bed to go to sleep, and like every other night, you rolled onto your side and proceeded to suck your thumb as I covered you with your blanket, walked to your door, and stared just one last minute at you before shutting it tight.
Today, sweet Maggie, I fell even more in love with you than I ever thought possible. Today my heart melted all over again. It happens every day...and I can't wait until tomorrow...
