Cloth diapering

This time around with Maggie is my first time cloth diapering. I NEVER thought I would do it, as it seemed like just too much work. C'mon..who really wants to WASH diapers and deal with a diaper pail, etc??? Well, turns out it's SUPER easy. I know it's not for everyone I certainly don't try to talk people into cloth diapering, but it has been working great for us. My reasons for doing it are: 1) it is best for Maggie as all the disposable diaper chemicals aren't against her body 2) it is cheaper for us!

I am using a fitted diaper and a cover...here's a stock pic of the diaper I'm using. It's called a Mother-Ease One Size. The snaps allow for adjustments so the diapers fit from birth to potty training (about 35 pounds). This pic shows the three different snap settings for different size adjustments as your child grows.

They are not waterproof so they do require a cover. Covers have come a long way since rubber pants. Now they come in snaps or velcro and in cute colors and designs. I use a Thirsties velcro cover...here's a pic.

And here's a pic of Maggie in the diaper at 4 days old (no cover).

I have to wash the diapers every 2-3 days, and as long as it is just breastfed poop there is no need to rinse the diaper. It just goes in the diaper pail (I just use a laundry basket...they don't stink!). Wash routine is rinse in cold, wash on a hot cycle, and dry in the dryer. SUPER easy!

I LOVE not having to buy diapers, and I don't miss the bags and bags of garbage either. I never knew cloth diapering would be so easy! Oh, and the best resource on-line for diaper info and purchases is nickisdiapers.com.

I'm so glad I decided to give it a try :)
