We got another report card for Mason, and no surprises, he had perfect marks across the board. He loves to do math, and we have taught him how to add and subtract in columns, how to carry and borrow, and he is now learning multiplication. He has the concept of multiplying down, now I just need to print him out some multiplication tables. I'm sure he'll have them memorized in no time :)
He also loves to spell. He has this leap frog spelling stick thing I got at Goodwill for $2 and he LOVES it. He is on level twenty-something and now can spell words like 'cycle', 'sensible', 'kitchen', 'sailor', 'afford', 'advance', 'polygon', and 'melody'. It amazes me to see him sit there and go "Oh, 'cycle', that's easy peasy!"
He also loves to read, and polishes off Magic Treehouse and Jigsaw Jones books in one evening. He likes factual books about animals, space, and science too and loves to share the facts he's learned with us. He usually starts spouting facts at the dinner table like "If I were going as fast as an asteroid I could cross the Atlantic Ocean in 8 minutes" or "It would take you 6 years to drive around Jupiter." He could also tell you all about poisonous plants and endangered species :)
Mason is also still in karate and will be testing for his new belt (green with a purple stripe) next week. It is a lot of work, and he particularly doesn't enjoy practicing form, but he does it. I think it is really good for him...he has to perform by himself in front of his instructor and the rest of the class...and he does it! At the age of 6 he has more courage than I did at 3 times his age! :)
It is so fun to see him growing and learning...he learns SO FAST...we can hardly keep up!
