Mason usually has something that he gets out of bed for after being tucked in. Usually it's scary thoughts, or he needs something. Not last night...he got out of bed, came up the stairs and said "Mom?" I thought 'great, here we go again!' But no, his question was:
Mason: "We saw a play at school today that the 4th graders did about America. I heard some big words and I don't know what they mean...like 'revolution'. What does 'revolution' mean?"
I say (trying to think of terms a 6 year old can understand): "When people want to do things differently...sometimes they might fight about it."
Mason says: "Oh...well, what about 'taxation'...what is that?"
I say: "We pay taxes when we buy something, and we pay taxes for things that we own...like our house and property. We pay taxes to the government to help pay for schools, roads, and snowplows." (it was right after the snowstorm...I figured he'd remember snowplows).
Mason says: "Wow...that's a LOT!"
I say: "Yes...we pay a LOT of taxes!" :)
